Recent Committees

I organized the following Hays Consolidated Independent School District committees, which involved running meetings, developing agendas, posting information about each online, coordinating presentations, scheduling, and membership management:


Hays CISD Attendance Boundary Rezoning Committee - High Schools
Fall 2018

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: redraw the district's high school attendance zone map. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. 


Hays CISD School Naming Committee
Fall 2017


Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: name the district's 14th elementary school and 3rd high school. This committee involved extensive public engagement.

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: redraw the district's elementary school attendance zone map. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. 
 
Hays CISD Growth Impact Committee - $250 Million Bond Initiative Development
Fall 2016 - Spring 2017

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: development of a bond initiative of $250 million, which included the district's third comprehensive high school. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. The bond passed.

Hays CISD Bond Oversight Committee 
Ongoing 2014 - Present (Quarterly)

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: oversight of projects approved by voters in previous school building bond initiatives.

Hays CISD Academic Calendar Committee
Ongoing 2011 - Present (Bi-Annually) 

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: development of an academic calendar within legal requirements and district objectives. This committee involved extensive public engagement.

Hays CISD High School #3 Location Committee
Fall 2015 - Spring 2016

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: select a location for the district's third high comprehensive high school. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. 

Hays CISD School Naming Committee
Fall 2015 

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: name the district's sixth middle school. This committee involved extensive public engagement.

Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: redraw the district's elementary and middle school attendance zone maps. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. 

Hays CISD Growth Impact Committee - $59 Million Bond Initiative Development
Fall 2013 - Spring 2014


Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: development of a bond initiative of $59 million, which included the district's sixth middle school. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings. The bond passed.


Hays CISD Election Redistricting Committee
Fall 2012 


Committee membership: school board appointed citizens and school district administrators. Goal: conducted annual redistricting of the school board single-member election districts. This committee involved extensive public engagement, including formal public hearings and preclearance approval from the United States Department of Justice.

SL-Ideas (A Ted Talk Style Presentation) Crisis Communication
Texas Association of School Boards Summer Leadership Institute (SLI) - San Antonio  & Fort  Worth June 2018

I served on a discussion panel of three communication experts from the Texas School Public Relations Association and conducted two Ted Talk-style presentations in the main ballrooms of both 2018 SLI conferences, specifically focusing on crisis communication. Audience: Texas school board members and superintendents of schools from various school districts. 


Be Your Own Newsroom - Media and Public Relations Training
The Texas System of Care (UT Austin & Texas Health and Human Services Commission) - Austin June 2017

I conducted a two-hour media and public relations training for the group's annual conference attendees. The Texas System of Care serves children ages 3 – 17 who experience intense mental health challenges. The group collaborates across multiple state and local agencies with various issue-specific focuses in communities across Texas.

I served on a discussion panel of four communication experts from the Texas School Public Relations Association and conducted a breakout group specifically focusing on writing - Writing with Mind, Body, Heart, and Soul.  Audience: Texas school board members and superintendents of schools from various school districts.

I organized and hosted the mission statement, teambuilding, and strategic planning initiative for the Texas Youth Commission in 2007. Audience: agency management and employees from across Texas.
